Review

Three words : I loathe J.D.

He needs to be gone, that's all I have to say about that.

The Grace in Darkness picks up right where The Edge of Darkness ended. Aghhhh, I just wanted them to not be tip-toeing around each and find one another again. I got a little ticked at Ryland for not getting past that annoying barrier of want and need. And of course, it was the same towards Araya ...

Ryland Ryland Ryland, 'I don't give a sh*t-Ryland'. And I loved that about him, he was just a brooding man wanting his woman back in his life. He'd even suffer being bossed by his oh-so amazing father, J.D. All for Araya. He pretty much turned out to be the guy that nobody wants to be around, suffering in his own misery. And this misery doesn't want any company.

Araya, as mad as I was at her, she had a lot to get through. She had to deal with her personal issues, focus on herself before she could bring Ryland back into her life. I loved how her character developed, she learned how to be independent and learn the ways around her disability. I just love what she became in this book, she was a completely new person; strong!

Passion, ohhhh the passion between the two! I've missed it and you will all be getting a healthy dose of it. Bring a fan to keep yourselves cool, everyone! Trust me, you're going to need it. Ryland sure likes to take, take , take. Definitely in a way that doesn't have me complaining, Araya doesn't either! I love them together and they truly go through several of trials of being together ... no thanks to a certain someone.

Overall, I loved this book. And I want more of Sebastian and Mak, their story felt so incomplete and the possibility of more. Well that's what I picked up, I hope we get their story :)

MY RATING :

Excerpt

His fingers wrapped around the back of my neck, pulling me hard against his body. I knew what he was attempting to do, but his plan was backfiring.

My body sighed at the contact, and every curve molded against him;
desperate to feel all of him.

“If I feel you beneath me, I won’t be able to stop Araya. I want you too damn much! I want you, all of you. I want to be buried so deep inside of you, you won’t know where I end
and you begin.” His breath showered my lips with warmth.

“I won’t want you to stop Ryland. I need you, all of you, now and forever.”

“And the rest?”

His eyes move over my face, flushing my skin with the intensity of his
gaze. The rhythm of my heart increased, because I know what he wants me to say.

“Say it.” He growls against my lips.

Review

This book did what I least expected it to do ... it gutted me completely!

I am pretty late to this series, but I'm glad I stumbled upon it and signed for the blog tour. After hearing so many great reviews for Tears of Tess, I quickly signed up for this blog tour and bought the first book in the series. I was so surprisingly intrigued and pulled in by Tears of Tess. It's an extremely dark set of books and probably the darkest that I've ever read. I finished Tears of Tess in one sitting, I read late into the night to finish it ... I simply couldn't put it down.

Everything that Tess went through is something to fear because it's happening today ... it's reality. And trying to put yourself in her shoes, it's unimaginable ... my head was racing with thoughts of "this could happen to ANYONE". And it scares the crap out of me, oddly, I liked having that aspect in the book. It's surreal and keeps you on the brink of undeniable fear.

Lately, I've been reading the books with BDSM in it. It's not my style, but it was a necessary element for this book. Both, Tess & Q yearned for it, what they needed from each other is what kept them whole. It seriously boggled me trying to wrap my mind around that concept, but it worked for them/this book. And because of it, I was able to understand their relationship and somewhat accept it, in a crazy-twisted way.

The element of surprise...s! YES, things happened that I didn't see happening! As I was reading, I was wondering what would happen next and boy, I didn't see that coming, even though the signs were all there. Apparently I suck at puzzles that. It sucks not being able to minimally share what happens, but what does will either break or make their relationship. And don't even get me started on the amount of times my heart was gutted out ... I cried, tears were just streaming down my face.

Q is one character out of all book characters that I have read about in the history of books characters, to surprise me the most. Especially towards the end, he was just unexpecting and I was in complete awe because of it. He's a dark menacing man, a savior (yeah, that threw me through a loop in Tears of Tess). He's not a flowers and chocolates type of guy, as much as he broods dominance, Tess could literally end his being in seconds. It really doesn't take much, he is wrapped around her fingers completely. But shhhhhh, he doesn't go public with that shit!

Tess ... sorry for the language, but holy fuck! She experienced really f*cked up stuff in this one, it's hard to imagine that some people have zero humanity left in them, it's sickening! But she proves to be  strong and Q constantly tests that of her. But strength has limits and hers will be tested to the max in this one, will it break her?

I was surprised at myself for liking a series like this, it was extremely well-written. And I love books that pull you in from the start. And I'm glad it wasn't constant sex scene after sex scene, I'm such a fan of this book and series. I was curious to see how you were going to end this one and I vote, great decision! They both deserve true happiness and I can't wait to see all of that unfold!

Review

If you've been following my reviews, you know how much I love books that are written in the male character's POV. And with the Candace and Ryan's story, I was eagerly awaiting to know more about Ryan.

Before you even consider reading this book make sure to read Fading, which is Candace's story. Yes, I suppose you can say that this is a re-hash of events from Ryan's POV, but we also get to know his full story and why he is the way he is.

How would I describe Ryan? Fierce ... protective ... loving ... caring ... scarred. As if I didn't fall in love with Ryan during Fading, I definitely fell head over heels in love with him, in this one. Ryan and Candace were made for each other, they definitely completely each other. Both suffered traumatic events in their lives and throughout the book, they still have plenty to overcome. And the conclusion was for them to be together, they have what each other needs.

Just like how it was in Fading, I had to relive being ticked off at Candace for some of the things she did. But it's okay, she realized what she did and things were great again. One thing that I try to do, when I read my books is to place myself in their shoes. It was extremely tough for this book because Candace and Ryan's personal experiences is something no human being should EVER have to go through. It's completely traumatic and there's just so much that went through their minds; blame, guilt, shame. Of course from an outside perspective, they never should have felt like that. They were just two amazing people that were seriously wronged and it made them who they are today.

When they're together, walls come down, hearts begin to open and they both learn to love. And they're so passionate about each other. This book brought tears to my eyes, it split my heart right open (AGAIN), toe curling moments, and a beautiful happy ending that I always love.

In Falling, once you get past the part of where things ended in Fading, you being to wonder what happens next. I like how E.K. Blair ended the book, but I felt like it was a little drawn out, I found myself wondering what the ending would be (and it was amazing, trust me ... very beautiful). And thinking when the conclusion would be coming up.

I'm such a fan of this series and I think all of you will Ryan's POV!

Excerpt

I sit back on the couch and wonder about her, remembering what Jase told me the other day before I saw how upset she was after talking with her mom.

“Her parents are assholes to her. They treat her like shit and she doesn’t deserve it.”

I wonder how she’s doing. I wonder how bad her parents really are. I wonder if they’re the reason why she’s so closed off. I wonder why I’m wondering so much, but I can’t shake the fact that I need to know. For some reason, it bothers me, and I can’t let it go.

I pull out my cell and go back and forth on whether or not I should take this jump. I don’t know what I’m doing. I’ve never done this before. I’ve never wanted to. But now . . . Fuck it, I’m jumping.

Punching out a text, I send it to Mark.

Can you send me Candace’s number?

Excerpt 3 - from Chapter 2 (Obitus's POV)

I sat back on Karla’s couch, my ankle dangling over my other leg’s knee. The place looked strange, all the objects crowding the already tiny space. But then again my idea of a cozy home was a large cave with enough room for me to roll around in my dragon form. Humans were small creatures. In fact, everything in Akai was small and cramped.

But fun.

The weres leader paced, hands clasped at his back. He was fun too. Jeremy Hays was a lanky thing with bright red hair that stood out like antennas. He had piercing green eyes and the nasty habit of biting the inside of his cheek. I liked that worried look about him.

I liked the fear that radiated from him too. He made a considerable effort to cover the fact that he was looking at anything but me. A couple of times, his gaze came close to meeting mine. Well, reasonably close. I think the progress froze somewhere around the tip of my nose.

“What’s taking the gargoyle so long?” he muttered.

I shrugged. “Sharpening the knife for dinner.”

The werecat flinched. “That’s dragon humor, right?”

I chuckled. “Oh yes, we’re funny like that. Dragons, you know? Never a dull moment.”

The piercing green eyes finally focused on me and Jeremy smiled. He looked very cat- like right then. I’d first seen him in his cat form–cats were lovely creatures. Tiny as a dot but so resourceful and agile. I liked cats. I was still iffy about Jeremy though.

“So tell me, what do you get out of it?” he asked eyeing his nails.

I held up a hand. “We’ll discuss it when Kann is here. I don’t like repeating myself.”

Jeremy smiled and nodded, resuming his pacing about. Maybe it was a cat thing, not being able to stand still when they were nervous.

EXCERPT:

Moving lightning fast, Dez shifted and I was suddenly underneath him. His arms were on either side of my head, caging me in. Our bodies didn’t touch, but I felt him to the tips of my toes anyway.
The teasing grin disappeared when I dragged in a deep breath and my chest brushed his. Everything changed in an instant. The playful mood faded, replaced by primal heaviness. Our gazes collided and locked. Neither of us moved. His closeness sent a series of shivers skittering across my skin and made it hard to take slow, even breaths. My body tensed when his gaze dropped to my mouth.
He tilted his head to the side. “I… I honestly have no idea what we were talking about.”
                “Good. Neither do I.”
He shifted his weight onto one arm, bring him closer. “Have you enjoyed your trip so far?”
“Yes.” I felt as if I couldn’t get enough air into my lungs.
“Good.” He lowered his head. His breath was minty as it moved across my cheek and then my lips. “I’m glad.”
I wasn’t really following the conversation and I wasn’t sure that he was fully aware of what was coming out of his mouth. I searched my hazy brain for something to say and wet my lips. I-
The sound that came out of Dez’s chest rumbled through me. A stuttered heartbeat passed and then his lips were on mine. There was nothing slow about this kiss. It scorched my skin and caused my body to stretch tight like a bowstring. The kiss deepened, spinning my senses. I shuddered when his hand curved over my shoulder and drifted down to my waist, his long fingers spreading out under the hem of my shirt, grazing the bare skin of my stomach.
I gasped, floored by the raw sensations pounding through my blood. My skin felt as if I was about to phase. Maybe I was.

“Jasmine,” he whispered, the word falling against my lips, and then his body was pressing mine into the mattress, heavy, sweet and hard.

Blog Tour ( review + giveaway ) : Back to Reality (Back to Life #2) by Danielle Allen

Title : Back to Reality
Series : Back to Life #2
Author : Danielle Allen

Synopsis

Her past: Emanuel Mills was her first love. The guitar playing, adventure seeking, IT whiz was everything she ever wanted.

Her present: Tyree Barker was her last love. The cultured, educated, successful entrepreneur was everything she needed.

But when Sahara Lee’s past and present collided, a series of events occurred that changed her life forever, leaving her future up in the air.

As a college freshman, a tragic accident changed the course of Sahara’s life. Ten years later, just when she started putting her life back together, Sahara’s world was rocked again due to a similar accident.

Heartbroken and guilt ridden, Sahara fell into old, familiar habits before quickly realizing that she wasn’t the same Sahara Lee anymore. Unable to live a lonely, loveless, isolated life anymore, Sahara decided that the way she coped before wasn’t going to work this time around.

Time didn’t heal her wounds, but forgiveness might.

My Thoughts

Where to begin?

Well, if you didn't read the first book, Back to Life, don't even bother reading this view. A lot of it probably won't make any sense to you at all.

After the cliffhanger in the first book, I was reeling and overfilled with impatience to get my hands on the next one. Let me share that I hate when stories end like that, shame on you!

Just like the first book, Sahara is still harboring all the guilt, pain, hurt from her past and now her present. After the way things ended in the first book, Sahara did what she thought was best for her and everyone around, to run, more than anything from the men (yes, plural) that she loves. And oh it hurts my ears, when there's 2 men involved to form a "lovely" little triangle. Oh, how I loathe the infamous love triangles. When she realizes that she loves both, predictions were running in and out of my mind. And questions beyond questions, who will she pick?!

In the first book, I am all for Ty (the beautiful man who became my favorite in the first book, I was all Team Ty). Let me share a little bit about Ty, this beautiful man who cares so much about Sahara and will do anything to take care of her, he brought her strength. And there's Emanuel (he was not my favorite), Sahara's first love, he will always be there for her, no matter what obstacles came in their way.

I know this will be rather confusing, but the characters are all very different from the first book. When Sahara starts to go to therapy to overcome her demons, she makes great strides in the emotional department, but her actions went in a completely different direction. Which ticked me off, there were several times when I just couldn't deal with what she was doing. A lot of the messes she got into was all be her creation, she has a quite a bit of growing up to do. I just wanted to yell, "You're an adult, Sahara! Suck it up and get over it!".

It was interesting, when I noticed all the changes with each of the characters. It definitely changed my views on all of them. And that's when you begin to question who would be better for Sahara. Or will she end up picking anyone in the end?

I loved this book, but not as much as I love the author. I've constantly been giving her feedback as I read this book and she enjoyed every little moment of it. Even the times, when the book was driving me completely crazy.

AND, there's a happy ending ... well sort of! Hard to explain, yet I can't explain at all. It was so hard to write this review without spoiling anything.

SO, if you haven't read Back to Life, everyone needs to get up on it and then read Back to Reality.
