Blog Tour : A Tragic Wreck by TK Leigh ( review + giveaway )

Synopsis

How can you continue living when you’re living a lie? How can you convince your body to stop feeling, your soul to stop caring, and your heart to stop beating?

Haunted by her past, Olivia Adler flees Boston for a beach in Florida, leaving everyone behind, trying to shut the world out. Remaining a relative recluse in her self-imposed prison, she tries to turn everything off, wanting to feel nothing. But a new acquaintance won’t let that happen. After being away from Alexander for a month, his voice constantly ringing in her head, reminding her that her inability to confront her demons will not only destroy her, but also him, can she really be expected to want to feel again when it brings nothing but pain?

Back in Boston, everywhere he turns, Alexander Burnham is reminded of Olivia… His Olivia… He tries to dull the ache left in his heart the only way he knows how… in the bed of a beautiful woman. But Alexander isn’t about to lose his Olivia. After a clue comes to light regarding Olivia’s whereabouts, can he convince her to return to Boston with him? When a force that has laid dormant for months resurfaces, can Alexander still protect her from the unknown danger? And when Alexander comes face to face with a shadow of both his and Olivia’s past, will he be able to tell her the secret that is threatening to tear them apart?

A Tragic Wreck is the continuation of T.K. Leigh’s heart-breakingBeautiful Mess series.

Review

This series was an automatic love as soon as I got through the first book, A Beautiful Mess. So I was eagerly waiting for this one and the day came.

The book pretty much picks up where it left off in the infamous cliffhanger that everyone just loves in the first book. Warning: expect the same for book 2, but of course, we must read on.

Oliva ... & .... Alexander. Lets begin this broken, beautiful, rather dramatic journey.

Olivia sticks with what she knows and starts to run ... again. Leaving Alexander in the dust. Foolish girl she was; I think I spent more time being mad than anything else. OK, I'm sorry but let the rambling begin.

Dear Olivia.
Why would you run away from the man you love, who you were extremely happy with, and be away and miserable?
- Disgruntled Malia
I never understood the logic "you're better off without me, so lets not be together and be miserable at the same time".

Even Alexander is a complete mess, but he is forever keeping track of her and hoping to find her. Well lets just say it's pretty hard for these two to be apart.  Love always finds a way. And once we get there, it's a push ... and pulll ... and push some more ... more pulling and pushing. It's been a long time where I was furious at two main characters. And it's like this through the entire book, get it together people. You're killing us!

We basically have two miserable people who are DEEPLY in love with each other, and yes ... that's what we have.

Now lets throw in Cam ... ( I always get nervous when a third party is thrown in, they are the pot stirrers and I don't like it one bit). He becomes Olivia's friend during her "running" trip. It's clear what his intentions are, Olivia definitely isn't ready for anything else (come on, she's still in love Alexander, that's not changing), but she slowly takes strides with Cam (for some reason). And to be honest, it's not fair to Cam, Miss Olivia. He is not a tool to be used, my dear.

I know I seem to be talking more about Olivia, but Alex is no way an innocent bystander.

Dear Alexander.
Secrets DO NOT in a million years, make friends.
*shaking my head* Malia
My biggest pet peeve in all books that I read is when they keep stuff (pretty important ones) to themselves. And then it just burns them in the end ... I know you're a smart one mister, so you can't play dumb on that. I know it was a necessity for the story, but that doesn't mean I will ever like it!

I know the rating will be surprising, shoot it's just hard to confuse. I love the story, but not this book, does that make sense? I will say that this book will not be my favorite in the series because I definitely spent more time being mad at all the characters in this book, even Cam. Just because I didn't want him there ....  ( I know, I know ... you can hate me for saying that). After reading the second one in this series, I'm looking at it as a whole until I can tame all my angry emotions with Olivia and Alexander. But I am in DIRE NEED of Book 3. It needs to soothe me, even though it will be a fight for that. The storm is just brewing and it will wreak havoc on everything, I need to mentally prepare myself for that.

TK, I absolutely hope you don't take this review the wrong way, I have nothing but love for this series. And of course I still love Alexander and Olivia, but they sure do know how to piss me off! I am extremely excited for the next one, I can't wait!

MY RATING :
3.75

Blog Tour : Tragic Desires by A.M. Hargrove

Synopsis

My name is Gemini Sheridan. At least that’s what I thought it was for 23 years. Then one day a slight adjustment on the wheel of my mountain bike set into motion a series of catastrophic events that changed my life forever. Now I’m running from the headaches that threaten to destroy me… from the assassins that threaten to kill me… from the truth that exposes who I really am… and from the man that wants to save me. Because he now owns my heart and I fear him above all others.

My name is Drexel Wolfe and I’m a private investigator. Nothing ever stands in the way of what I want because when I see something I just take it. All of that changed the night my life collided with Gemini Sheridan’s and now everything is one hot damn mess. And the worst part of it all is that I’m trying to save her ass and I don’t know why the hell I’m even bothering. Well, that’s not exactly true. Fact is, I can’t stop thinking about her. She’s crawled into every thought I own, asleep or awake. I have serious plans for her that include making her mine. What she doesn’t know is that when I play, I play for keeps. Nothing and no one will get in my way or stop me… not even Gemini Sheridan herself.

About the Author

One day, on her way home from work as a sales manager, A. M. Hargrove, realized her life was on fast forward and if she didn't do something soon, it would quickly be too late to write that work of fiction she had been dreaming of her whole life.  So, she rolled down the passenger window of her fabulous (not) company car and tossed out her leather briefcase.  Luckily, the pedestrian in the direct line of fire was a dodge ball pro and had ├╝ber quick reflexes enabling him to avoid getting bashed in the head.  Feeling a tad guilty about the near miss, A. M. made a speedy turn down a deserted side street before tossing her crummy, outdated piece-of-you-know-what laptop out the window.  She breathed a liberating sigh of relief, picked up her cell phone, called her boss and quit her job.  Grinning, she made another call to her hubs and told him of her new adventure (after making sure his heart was beating properly again).

So began A. M. Hargrove's career as a YA/NA and Adult Romance writer. Her books include the following: Edge of Disaster, Shattered Edge and Kissing Fire (The Edge Series); The Guardians of Vesturon series (Survival, Resurrection, Determinant, reEmergent and Beginnings); Dark Waltz and Tragically Flawed.

Other than being in love with writing about being in love, she loves chocolate, ice cream and coffee and is positive they should be added as part of the USDA food groups.

The protection of the light is about to cease, but her heart and mind repeat one word incessantly, one she cannot ignore … Draco.

Review

OK, I went through a series of different things during this book. confusion, annoyed (with certain characters), a bit more confusion, intrigued. It may have just been me, but there quite a few scenes where I wondering what exactly was going on.

Just a few characters to talk about, but definitely not all of them :

Sarenah - this book was a tad short, so I felt like I couldn't completely settle on how I felt about her. But what I did get was how she was one tough chick that liked bending the rules. She was well known among the heavens.

Draco - & he was well-known in Hell. Definitely someone to be feared. Just like Sarenah, I wasn't able to get a full appreciation of him, but I look forward to learning more about these two in the next book.

Saint - the "only" one that Sarenah is close to (or is she?). It's pretty easy to pick out how close they are, but their feelings don't exactly run the same for each other. He was a protector and would always put Sarenah first.

Tabian - ANNOYING ... I couldn't handle him, I agreed with Sarenah and Saint, he just needed to stop talking. I know he means well as he does seem to be very fond of Sarenah. I know there's more to his story, but I'm assuming it's just not his time yet.

So I'm rating this a 3.5, I did like the story and found it very intriguing. And I do plan on reading the next one in the series. There was a bit of a mystery because I wasn't exactly sure how the ending would turn it, but lets just say it wasn't what I expected. I don't know about you guys, but I wouldn't say this book is easily predictable, which is what I like. I wasn't a fan of all the different point of views, to me, it just clouded a lot of things. And it felt like too much was going on, when you got to see all of the characters thought process. I will say that we do get to know each character a little better and their role in the story. I think this story just needed a little bit more focus on the Draco & Sarenah, and not so much the supporting characters.

Overall, this story intrigued me and I am definitely looking forward to reading more about Draco & Sarenah's story.

Dream Cast

Excerpt

The dark creature walked over to me, unusually close, the heat from his skin leaping onto mine. He held up his open palm. As if entranced, I placed my hand upon his and our fingers laced together. Suddenly the darkness of his eyes was illuminated with swirls of hypnotic colors circling each other in the very middle where his pupils should be.

I knew I shouldn’t be here, shouldn’t be touching this sinful creature, but I couldn’t stop. His touch was hot with a passion I had never known before, yet so familiar. I was caught in a trap that I never wanted to get out of.

His other hand dug into my hair and jerked my head back, his breath hot on my neck, his eyes peering into mine.

“How many more, ma’am?” a fireman shouted out above the sirens.

The female just stood there in front of the smoldering shelter before her, both hands covering her face, ashen-filled tears falling from the edge of her jaw.

“Ma’am!” the fireman hollered out. “Who else are you missing?”

The wind changed directions. I looked up to see another angel passing by, carrying the breeze along with her. She raised her hand ever so slightly to wave. I nodded at her.

The fireman covered his nostrils with the inside of his arm as the wind carried the sultry smoke toward him.

The female seemed unaffected by the smoke. She just kept staring at that front door, her apprehension more of a focus now as she waited. “Two,” she finally replied.

“Did she say two?” another guy asked.

“Two?” he asked her again to confirm.

Never looking his way, she nodded. “My husband, he went back in for our oldest son.”

“Who are you?” I whispered, my chest heaving up and down from his firm grasp on my hair. My anger flared. I should kill him for putting his hands on me like that, but it felt so good.

He narrowed his eyes at me for a moment before answering, “Draco.”

Draco.

He released me as I stood up straight, facing him. I knew who this strange creature was. I had heard about him on my travels. He was a solider of the dark, with strength witnesses marveled at. Most of the soldiers of the dark were cowards who slithered here and there with little, if any, common sense about their purpose or duty at hand. It was said that this Draco’s loyalty surpassed all others. But there was one other tidbit I had heard that was even more unusual. Those who worked with him, who were on the same side, seemed to like him. It was a concept unheard of for the dark side. Everyone was your enemy and everyone hated each other.

“And you are?” he asked.

If I said my name, he’d know who I was as well, and he’d run away. My intrigue was far too deep to have him disappear just yet.

“It doesn’t matter, does it?” I said.

He smirked, a dimple forming in the side of his cheek.

“Why are you following me?” she stops and asks in a huff, her foot stomping on the polished concrete floors.
“I’m going to class. I’m not following you.”
She looks over at me and scowls. “You have class here in this building at seven AM? Not likely. There’s only one class in here and it’s by invitation only,” she says with an air of superiority as she begins walking again.
I walk again too, then smile at her when she checks to see if I’m still following. “I’ve been invited, don’t worry.”
This makes her stop and whirl around to face me. “You’re in my class?”
“I am,” I say smugly. “I’m a transfer from DU. I major in business, but I take art on the side.”
“Oh.” She flips her long golden tresses over her shoulder. “A hobbyist.”
“Yeah.” I smirk and shrug at the same time. “You could call me that.”
She turns again and resumes the power walk. I catch up, pass her, and then hold the studio door open and wave her through.
“Thank you,” she says under her breath as she passes close enough for me to breathe in her scent. She smells like sugar. Seriously, like a fucking cookie or something. I watch her head across the room to gather her things. The studio is filled with students. At least forty of them. Everyone is setting up, getting ready for life drawing.
“Mr. Shrike,” the middle-aged voice calls out to me from across the room.
I look over at Bombshell and she’s watching me very carefully. I wink and shoot her with my finger, then turn and walk towards the professor with a smile. “Miss Aberdeen, thank you for fitting me in the class. I can see what you mean now, it’s packed full.”
She blushes at me. Yeah, I have that effect on women of all ages, so I shoot her a winning smile and tilt my head a bit. Ronin taught me that move. I might not be on speaking terms with him these days, but that guy knows all the fucking charm tricks. He has the women lined up like groupies.
I’m not a groupie gatherer, but this head-tilt thing works well enough on the professor in front of me. Her look says, I’m an artist. She’s got the earthy clothes that hang off her skinny frame, the glasses, the put-up hair that’s falling out all over the place, and the Birks on her feet.
She’s so earthy, I was sorta shocked when she named her condition for letting me join this class.
“Mr. Shrike—”
“Please, Miss Aberdeen, call me Spence.” I smile again and chance a look over at Bombshell. She’s set up in the front row. I already knew this. I’ve been doing recon on the Bomb since I first saw her in that fight with her brother in front of the bookstore.
“Very well, Spence.” Aberdeen blushes when she says my name and that’s sorta cute. “Next week your space is next to Miss Vaughn—”
She continues talking about what will happen next week. But I’m more concerned with what’s happening this week to give a shit about a time so far in the future, so I tune the rest out. I’m too busy looking over at the Blonde Bomb as she tries to process what’s being said.
I chuckle as Aberdeen walks away and Veronica Vaughn walks up. “You planned this. You’re stalking me, aren’t you?”
“Recon, baby. Not stalking.” And then I grab the hem of my shirt and pull it straight up over my head. Not too fast, Ronin taught me this too. He said the slow-mo shirt removal was one of the easiest ways to snag a girl. When I look back at Veronica her mouth is gaping open.
“What are you doing?” she hisses at me. “Put your shirt on!”
I drop the shirt to the floor and go for the pants. Veronica gasps when I pop the button and downright chokes when I go for the zipper. I hear a few cat calls from the back of the room as I slip my pants down.
I’m commando today, so His Highness just pops right out.
Every girl in the room explodes in laughter. It’s the good kind though. I know the difference. This laughter says, Holy fucking shit, I cannot believe he just took off his clothes!
“You look more like a cherry than a bombshell right now, Blondie,” I joke with her.
She shakes herself out of her silent stare and turns on her heel.
“Well,” Miss Aberdeen says as she claps her hands together in delight. “Mr. Shrike—err, Spence.” She smiles big as she says my name. “It’s too late now, obviously, but next time—”
“Next time?” Blondie says as she peeks out from behind her easel.
“—please use the dressing room over there in the corner. And put on a robe until we’re ready for you.” She bats her eyelashes at me, then steals a glance down.
“Sure thing,” I say as I wink and shoot. “Where do you want me, Miss Aberdeen?”
Veronica blushes the entire fucking class. Her face is this sexy shade of flush for ninety minutes. And every one of those ninety minutes, she thinks about nothing but me. She traces every line and curve of my body onto the paper in front of her. She licks her lips seventeen times. She sighs twenty-two times. She groans and whimpers when she makes five mistakes, and she even has a pouty frown on her face for the splittest of seconds when Aberdeen announces that class is over.
